By all religious/spiritual descriptions God is supposed to be omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, infinitely benevolent, and infinitely just. But where is God? Will we see him ever? Is he present, in the first place? What is the proof of his existence, if at all?
Consider modern day from the view of men living 100 years earlier. The modern man with his cell phones, bluetooth, computers, internet, mp3 players, webcam, modern day medical, technological, mechanical advances and such stuff is virtually, at least relatively, omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent.
Today I can show myself, and talk, to anybody I want wherever they are with the help of some gadgets. If anybody asks me for any information, I have an almost infinite reservoir of information to draw from – the internet. There is little that the modern man doesn’t know, or won’t know, within minutes if he asks himself a question. The rise in life expectancies and medical cures to most illnesses has been well documented. Relatively speaking, we live longer and far healthier. People can point out some more diseases where cures aren’t found. But it cannot be denied that we are dealing with all those diseases much better today than earlier. If we were able to offer these services to those people who had these diseases earlier, they would consider us quite close to omnipotent.
The general living conditions of humans in general has been going up. We are having relatively more fun, and are having better comforts. Some of these assertions might be bit subjective. However, female rights and general female living situation has undeniably improved drastically within our life times. Now they have a voice and presence around us. There is, still, a lot of scope for improvement. Still, in view of any girl who was married when she was barely 16 (this practice was widespread, not too long ago), the freedom the modern girl enjoys would look like a divine gift. There is a greater understanding, in general, about the third sex, disabled (mentally or physically) persons, homosexuality, animal rights, widowhood, and discrimination. We are all working towards making all disadvantaged groups feel better.
If you give me all these modern gadgets, understanding, and ideas, and transport me in time to around 100 years before now, I am sure I can easily convince the people then that I am omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, infinitely benevolent and just. In short, they would think I am God. Many of the things attributed to the traditional God, in all religions, now look pretty much possible by man, if not now, in the near future. If some man who would live hundred years later shows up with his ideas and gadgets, I think, we would think he is God.
I just want us to consider if this is the very essence of being God? Being the best, we can be. We are getting better everyday in all respects. Maybe, we are all together becoming God. If we continue in the direction we are going, and one day, we may have nothing left to know, nothing we cannot do, and no injustices left in the universe; and that is probably the day where we know God, because we are him.
God is not out there; He is something we eventually become.
