Verses from quran are the most oft quoted following terrorist attacks around the world. “Moderate muslims” distance themselves from these attacks saying that, Islam is a religion of peace, and one should not misunderstand Islam. If at all this is true, the terrorists must be taught this before others. However, my prime objective here is to show the inherent dangers of moderate Islam and its’ virus-like design to spread. 

According to quite a few studies, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Many muslims argue that its growth is the proof of its truth. Something’s growth doesn’t imply its’ truth. If unchecked, weeds grow faster than regular crops. This doesn’t mean weeds are better. The reasons for the growth of Islam and their eating away into co-existant religions are manifold.

Muslims have high birthrates. Family planning has the lowest acceptance among muslims. In addition, Islam shrewdly allows muslim males to marry non-muslim females. This is made easier by “allowing” polygamy, and making the goal of “spreading Islam” as one of the reasons for marriage. To encourage this, it allows the non-muslim female to continue practicing her religion knowing fully well that her religion ends with her and the kids will be raised as muslims. The double standards are brought out by the fact that no muslim female is allowed to marry a non-muslim unless he converts to Islam. The children invariably become muslims. All these practices ensure Islamic proportion in a population keeps growing.

Many such rules exist in almost all religions. The uniqueness of Islam is in how it ensures muslims follow these rules. Like many other religions, there are threats of hell after death. Those would eventually be ignored. But it is impossible to ignore punishments handed down in this life. A muslim who questions quran (or Muhammad) is, by definition, an apostate. By the shariah (law based on quran), he is sentenced to death by stoning/beheading. In such a scenario, how would a muslim even think of criticizing Islam (let alone abandoning it).

Once a majority, muslims usually govern by the shariah. Many muslims sincerely believe that it is the best way to govern. According to the shariah, non-muslims are awarded dhimmi status. Dhimmis are not allowed to build new places of worship; old ones are protected, until the government needs them. They can practice their religion, only privately. Their religious literature must not be sold in the open market. They are not allowed to serve in a public office, cannot testify in a court, and they have to pay a jizya (protection tax) in subjection, recognizing Islam’s superiority. Such menial status forces non-muslims in an Islamic majority country (almost all have shariah influenced laws) to convert to Islam.

Most muslims wouldn’t object to the shariah saying that if applied “correctly”, it is the best way to govern. I like many muslims and have nothing personally against them. However, Islam must be fought for the above reasons, among a lot of others.

Islam, in its present form, is not a religion; it is an invading political ideology.
