To achieve, one has to attempt. However, women are restricted/restrict themselves from even attempting most things, fearing failure/safety. Female discrimination is unlike any other. Elsewhere, discrimination is accompanied by a desire to hurt. Women are primarily discriminated against by their well-wishers intending to protect them. This anomalous behavior is explained by the fact that women are treated, even by themselves, as if owned by someone else. For example, when a boy considers smoking or sex, he is rarely sensitive of his parents, but a girl is. The sensitivity is just proportional to the reaction of the parents if they found out. This is also a reason why, from picnics to dates, it is men who seek, and women who have at least one reflex “no” for any proposal.
Mankind was enterprising and bold while facing the might of the animal kingdom and the fury of nature. However, when it came to the challenges faced by women, the advice was to surrender to men probably because the enemy was man. Women are conditioned to be emotional, listening, weak, submissive, quieter, nurturing, and attached. These traits make women ideal sub-ordinates with no assertiveness. There are a lot, among them women, who take the above traits as virtues, and claim that women are “naturally” all these things. This is like claiming a woman is “naturally” illiterate after not schooling her. Virtues they may be; but they ensured male-domination and female subordination.
A concern is sex. Mostly, only women seem to be subject to sexual aggression. However, this is only because males welcome similar aggression and, thus, that is not a concern. This differential response was due to pregnancy and social pressures. However, with the modern safe-sex contraptions, women’s conservative attitude to sex has no reasons. By promoting the present sexual attitudes, whereby a woman feels she lost by partaking in sexual intercourse while the man feels he gained, mankind was successful in turning female’s sexuality which ought to be one of her biggest strengths to her biggest weakness. The sex urge is in-built into most life and it is not wrong. Further, with abortion and medical aid, rape has no real effects beyond physical harm. Treating rapes like physical assaults frees the victim of shame/humiliation. Most rapists escape as the woman, and her “well-wishers”, wants to preserve her/family dignity, especially in repressive cultures.
Modern woman is attempting to hold her traditional advantages, while fighting the disadvantages. With greater power comes a greater responsibility. Being “owned” has the advantages of being protected, responsibility-free and sought after. However, the disadvantages are that she is neither free nor trusted to think. As long as women seek privileges for the fact of being a woman, they will be sub-ordinate to man. The only real difference between a man and woman is maternity. Everything else, besides the physical differences, is just perception. If parents are really well-wishers, it is time they prepared the girl child physically and mentally, the same way as the boy child, to take on the world.
One can quote religious scriptures, incidentally invariably authored by males, and claim women ought to be this and that. All religions have dogmas, but the one constant in all of them is the secondary status of women. Women must stop expecting to be treated with kid gloves, return fire with fire, and for once, fight their real enemies – “well wishers”.
